| Reviews in which Lehmann is MentionedIn the July/August 1999 issue of American Record Guide Alexander Morin reviews a Washington DC performance of tenor Ian Bostridge. It is a favorable article and includes the following: The art of great lieder singing is to fuse the words and the music into an exalted form of speech, and that is what he (Bostridge) gave us, with an intensity, commitment and communicative artistry unlike anything Ive heard since Lotte Lehmanns recitals in the 1930s. In the same magazine Ralph Lucano writes about the recent recording of the first act of Wagners Die Walküre with Placido Domingo as Siegmund, Deborah Polaski as Sieglinde and John Tomlinson, Hunding. The Staatskapelle Berlin is conducted by Daniel Barenboim. The performances are given a mixed review and in the last paragraph Lucano writes: Of the other single-disc recordings of Act 1 readily available, Mechior, Lehmann and Walter on EMI remain in a class of their own, despite the 1935 sound | |||
