Among other things, this is the website home of Gary Hickling's Great Songs radio program, dedicated to classical song, and broadcast weekly since 1988 on public radio. Click on the link to the left to listen to one some of the archived episodes.

Art song, the marriage of classical music and poetry, is called many things: classical song, Lieder (by the Germans), mélodie (by the French), solo song, piano song, concert song, or romance (by the Russians) to name a few. This website celebrates the art of the song.

LOCAL CONTEST will take you to a sampling of the Hawaii-based art song performance competition sponsored by Hawaii Public Radio. The Art Song Festival was begun in 1996. Contact Gary Hickilng for details or a sampler CD of the first decade of the Festival.
